The College Fundraiser Tournament at Stonewall November, 4 was a success as over $5,000 was raised to benefit the PPGA Scholarship Fund. Thank you to all of you who supported the Scholarsip this year and we look forward to reaching even more deserving more young men and women in the future. The big winner of the raffle for the three-some to Merion GC was Michael Ogrodnik. The PPGA Scholarship Fund was started in 2008 as a way for the PPGA to give back to the community and assist young men and women in pursuit of higher education. Two students were awarded scholarships in 2008, five were awarded in 2009, five in 2010, two in 2011, two in 2012 and four more in 2013. The goal of the PPGA Scholarship program is to reach and assist as many young people as possible in and around the Philadelphia area and surrounding communities. The Philadelphia Publinks Golf Association Scholarship Fund Inc. is a 501c3 charitable organization.
2013 Recipients
Jose Maria Centurion - Jose is a 2006 graduate of DelVal High School. After high school, Jose was enrolled at the Golf Academy of America's Orlando campus where he studied the golf swing and in particular, the Biokinetic Golf Swing Theory. Jose is currently a Kinesiology major at Temple University and when not playing golf likes to read golf books by Sean Foley and Joey Diovisalvi. James A. Durante, Jr. - James is a 2012 graduate of Upper Darby Senior High School and is currently enrolled in his second year at Delaware County Community College in Media Pa, pursuing an education in Business. . James is currently employed with the Casper Corporation and works at the Cobbs Creek/ Karakung Facilities. James learned the game from both his grandfather and father who are very avid golfers and plays socially with his friends as time permits. Timothy Durante - Timothy is a 2013 graduate of Upper Darby Senior High School and is currently enrolled as a freshman at La Salle University, pursuing a communication degree. Timothy lettered in both baseball and diving, where he set the school diving record. Timothy isnow am a member of the La Salle men's swimming and diving team competing at the Division 1 level in the A10 conference. Golf is a sport that runs in the Durante family and Timothy play golf with his friends as outlet for relaxation and time away from daily grind of every day life. Ryan Erskine -
Ryan is a 2013 graduate of North Penn High School where he was an honor student. Ryan was a member of the varsity baseball team while at North Penn which won the PIAA AAAA State Championship in 2013. Ryan also baseball for the Hatfield American Legion team. Ryan is currently attending Montgomery County Community College, studying criminal justice and also playing on the baseball team. In the short time Ryan has been at the college he has already been named a Distinguished Scholar Athlete for having a GPA over 3.50. Ryan plays golf with his friends when he is not playing baseball or working as an outlet to relax and enjoy time with friends.
