37th Philadelphia Open Amateur Championship
Final Results
Philadelphia - Mike Owsik found himself in familiar territory Sunday afternoon at the Philadelphia Open Amateur Championship at Cobbs Creek GC.  Owsik hoisted the Open Amateur trophy on the 25th anniversary of his first triumph in this event.  Along with his first championship in 1984, Owsik also emerged victorious in 1993 and 1999.  
     Mike Harms captured the 36 hole senior division championship played Friday-Saturday with two rounds of 1-over par 72.  Harms' total of 144 was also good enough for the second round lead in the Open Amateur.   Harms held the lead in the championship until a quadruple bogey nine at the par-5 fifth hole left him battling from behind the rest of the way.  Harms posted his best ever Open Amateur finish, T-3.
     2009 Philadelphia Publinks Champion Travis Gahman found himself four shots behind Owsik and tied with Harms with eight holes to go.  Gahman made a run at Owsik and pulled even with a birdie on the par 4 14th.  Again tied with  with two holes to go, a birdie by Owsik and a three-putt par by Gahman at the par 5, 17th gave Owsik a one shot lead heading to the home hole.  Both players hit the green in regulation and Owsik survived a scare as Gahman's birdie attempt to force a playoff on the final green slid over the left edge.  Owsik then managed to coax in his par putt to secure his fourth Open Amateur title.
     Tied for 3rd with Harms was Greg Jarmas who posted the day's best round with a 1-under par 70.  This was another good showing for Jarmas this summer as the high school senior to be qualified for the GAP Open Championship and is an alteranate for the USGA Junior Championship at Trump National GC.
     Four-time champion Chris Fieger finished T-5 , five shots back of Owsik.  Tied with Fieger for fifth was another GAP Open qualifier, Philip Winter. 
     Former PPGA President, Paul Cornely, finished second in the senior division and T-7 in the Open Amateur division.  Cornely's weekend was highlighted by a pair of hole-out eagles at the 431 yard par-4, 9th and the 348 yard par-4 16th.
