  2009 PPGA Fall Classic
  Final Results

Kimberton, PA - The 2009 PPGA tournament season concluded with the inaugural PPGA Fall Classic at Kimberton GC on Monday, September 28.  The conditions on the par 70 layout were difficult as blustery winds and fast greens, combined with the challenging format made scoring difficult.  The format for the Classic is 2-man scramble for the first six holes, better-ball of partners for the middle six holes and select drive, alternate shot for the last six holes.
It was Mike Brown, John F. Byrne GC and Everett Farr, North Hills CC, who fared the best in the tough conditions and emerged victorious to capture the first Fall Classic title.  The winning team posted five birdies against three bogies, including a birdie at the par-4, 344 yard home hole to post 2-under par 68 and seal the victory.
For Brown, his first PPGA victory caps an outstanding 2009 golf season.  Brown's year got off to a fast start by becoming the first ever PPGA player to capture a GAP major title by winning the GAP Mid-Am title in May.  In June, Brown qualified for a return trip to the USGA Publinks Championship where he qualified for match play.  Also in June, Brown lost a one hole playoff to USGA Amateur qualifier Travis Gahman in the PPGA Publinks Championship at Jeffersonville GC.  At the end of August, Brown qualified for his second USGA event of the year by being co-medalist at the Mid-Am qualifier at Links GC.  The USGA Mid-Am Championship will be conducted October 3-8 at Kiawah Island Club (Cassique Course) where Brown looks to continue his banner 2009 campaign.
Finishing two strokes behind Brown and Farr was Pat Sullivan, Meadowbrook GC and Ari Flaisher, Five Ponds GC.  Sullivan and Flaisher were 2-under through ten before posting bogies on the 465 yard par-4 11th and the 208 yard par-3 14th.  The runners-up saw birdie putts on the last four holes slide over the edge in an attempt to catch the winners.
Ken Hayman and Joe Herner used their home course advantage to post a score of 1-over par 71 to finish T-3 with Pete Boylan and Jim Conway both of FDR GC and David Shields who teamed with 2009 PPGA Senior Match Play Champion Bill Erskine of Walnut Lane GC.
The Philadelphia Publinks Golf Association was established in 1967 and all championships are open to all amateur golfers.  All public, private or players without a club affiliation are welcome to participate in PPGA events.
