2011 PPGA "Player of the Year" Rules

The Philadelphia Publinks will conduct "Player of the Year" and "Senior Player of the Year" races during the 2011 season.  The top finishers in each POY race will be awarded gift certificates to the club of their choice.  All players who compete in PPGA events will be eligible for points, whether or not you are a member of the PPGA.

This year, the POY points race will be used to determine the qualifiers for the PPGA-Baltimore Municipal Golf Association Challenge Match, Sunday October 2 at Pine Ridge GC in Luthersville, MD.  The top thirteen finishers in the POY standings and the top two in the SPOY standings at the end of the year will automatically qualify for the team (one committee exemption will fill out the sixteen player team).

The POY race will continue to determine the PPGA representative in the GAP Tournament of Champions and the GAP Senior Tournament of Champions.  The representatives for each will be the highest finishers that are PPGA members in good standing (this means you have your GHIN handicap with the PPGA and have met the playing requirements to be considered in good standing which are noted on the following link, www.phillypublinks.com/GAPEligibility).  To be eligible for "Senior Player of the Year" points, a player must be 50 years of age or older before the start of that tournament.

Points are awarded to the low finishers in each event and points are doubled for the multiple day events.  Points are accumulated from the Better-Ball Team Championship at Turtle Creek on May 16 through the Senior Championship at Turtle Creek GC on September 16th.  Below is the complete list of available points for each event.  Points that seniors are awarded in the POY race are carried over to the senior POY standings.  Points in "Senior" Divisions of tournaments will be determined based on the size of the field.

Points will also be awarded to PPGA qualifiers for USGA events.  A sectional qualifier for the US Open will receive 100 points.  Any qualifier for a USGA event will receive 150 points and anyone who qualifies for match play in a USGA event will receive an additional 100 points
